Honoring the Rich History of Philadelphia Rowing...Past, Present, and Future

The Philadelphia Rowing Wall of Champions will be located at the John B. Kelly Sr. statue at the finish line grandstands of the Schuylkill River race course. The low brick wall will surround the river side of the small plaza. The names of Philadelphia champions will be engraved on stainless steel plaques mounted on the wall.

The memorial is sized to accommodate the names of past, present and future champions for many decades to come. Both able-bodied and para-athlete rower medalists will be honored.

Philadelphia has been home to hundreds of the greatest rowers in the world for well over century! In an effort to memorialize those champions, and to inspire future generations, the Schuylkill Navy is constructing the Philadelphia Rowing Wall of Champions.

Why a Wall of Champions?

Honor the many Philadelphia area men and women who have won medals and brought honor to the City through their success in Olympic, World Championship and Pan-American Games competition

Be a source of pride and inspiration for the next generation of rowing champions who will view the memorial when they visit Philadelphia for one of the many regional and national rowing events;

Highlight Philadelphia’s unequalled rowing heritage that is renowned not only in the United States but all over the world.

The construction of the wall will also include restoration and repair of the Kelly statue and provide for the perpetual maintenance of the wall. Our fundraising goal is $200,000.00.

A successful fund-raising campaign will allowconstruction of the memorial in the spring of 2020 with dedication in the summer of 2020 to coincide with the Tokyo Olympic Games. It is envisioned that new medalists will be celebrated and added to the wall every four years.

The Philadelphia Rowing Wall of Champions needs your support to honor our local medalists. Please help honor Philadelphia’s legacy of rowing champions!
