OVERVIEW

Once again, the Schuylkill Navy of Philadelphia and Philadelphia Scholastic Rowing Association (PSRA) will offer a “Launch Pilot Certification” for all rowers, rowing fans, and friends of the river community who wish to join the team of awesome volunteers who make regattas and races happen….AND who secure the best seats in the house on race day!

WHO

The (free) Launch Pilot Certification is open to ALL volunteers who assist at events held on the Schuylkill (and beyond!). Absolutely all volunteers are welcome, including those in the Paddling Community, Head of the Schuylkill and Dad Vail Regatta teams, and club-operated regatta teams (eg, Murphy Cup, Navy Day Regatta, Bayada Regatta, etc). That said, the Schuylkill Navy and PSRA host a combined 15 days of racing over an 18 week period, so prioritization for available seats in this upcoming session will be given to those volunteers (Additional sessions will be scheduled as needed to accommodate all interested parties).

FORMAT

2-hour, instructor-led classroom on Feb 11, 2017 from 9 am – 11 am at the Conshohocken Rowing Center at Washington Street, Conshohocken, PA (Behind the Londonberry Apartment complex). Following the session, drivers will be given instructions and suggestions for receiving “hands-on, on-the-water” training over the coming weeks.

OPTIONAL FREE PENNSYLVANIA BOAT LICENSE

For those who wish to pursue it, attainment of a PA Boat License is available via participation in a follow-up class with Schuylkill Navy QuarterMaster Jack Lees. A PA Boat License turns out to be handy thing to have if you ever want to rent a motorboat, etc, and this is cheap/convenient way to get one. So, consider it… and note your interest below so that we can send you additional information.
