• Philadelphia's Fairmount Water Works, 1800-1860 - The Fairmount Dam, built to divert the flow of the river for the Waterworks, created the basin on which we row. Without the Waterworks there would be no dam, and without the dam there would be no rowing on the Schuylkill. This site is a great historical sketch of the Waterworks.
